S390: NC CARE in Radiologic Imaging

• Establishes the Radiologic Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board of Examiners to regulate and license radiologic technologists, radiation therapists, nuclear medicine technologists, magnetic resonance technologists, cardiovascular invasive specialists, and limited X-ray machine operators effective October 1, 2014.

• Creates an 11-member board appointed by the Governor with representatives from various radiologic specialties, physicians, educators, medical physicists, and one public member serving staggered three-year terms.

• Requires all radiologic imaging and radiation therapy personnel to obtain state licensure through passing approved examinations or demonstrating current certification by national credentialing bodies such as the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

• Exempts licensed practitioners, dental professionals, resident physicians, students under supervision, federal employees, sonographers, and radiologist assistants from licensure requirements.

• Establishes continuing education requirements (24 hours for most specialties, 12 hours for limited X-ray operators every two years), allows license renewal every two years, and authorizes the Board to impose civil penalties up to $1,000 and pursue disciplinary action against violators.
