Members of the State Highway Patrol are allowed to engage in secondary employment with approval from their commanding officer, provided it does not create a conflict of interest or impair their ability to perform patrol duties.

Permitted secondary employment includes providing security at sporting events and providing security for events benefitting elementary, secondary schools, and institutions of higher learning.

State Highway Patrol members are prohibited from engaging in secondary employment that requires them to testify in court or make arrests.

The Secretary of Public Safety is directed to adopt orders, rules, and regulations consistent with these secondary employment provisions.

The act becomes effective upon enactment.
