Requires health care facilities performing mammography examinations to notify patients with heterogeneously dense or extremely dense breasts in the written report summary, using language easily understood by non-medical persons.

Mandates inclusion of a specific notice in mammography reports informing patients that dense breast tissue is associated with increased breast cancer risk and may benefit from supplemental screening tests as recommended by their physician.

Exempts health care facilities from liability for non-compliance with notification requirements prior to October 1, 2013, and clarifies the law does not create legal obligations beyond providing the required notice.

Ensures the required notice complies with federal Mammography Quality Standards Act requirements and does not conflict with federal regulations.

Becomes effective October 1, 2013.
