HB 113 - Protect Our Students Act

• Increases criminal penalty for school personnel who engage in sexual conduct with students from Class A1 misdemeanor to Class I felony when the offender is less than four years older than the victim.

• Applies to sexual offenses including vaginal intercourse, sexual acts, and indecent liberties committed by school personnel against students.

• Expands definition of "school personnel" to include employees of nonpublic, charter, and regional schools, plus school volunteers.

• Requires county sheriffs to provide institutions of higher education with registry information for sex offenders who are students or employees at the institution upon request.

• Becomes effective December 1, 2015, with criminal penalty changes applying to offenses committed on or after that date.
