Designates the bobcat as the official state cat of North Carolina by adding a new section to Chapter 145 of the General Statutes.

The bobcat is found throughout North Carolina in wooded habitats of the coastal plain and mountains, recognizable by its short "bobbed" tail, round face with long sideburn-like hairs, and pointed ears.

Bobcats are carnivores weighing up to 40 pounds that prey primarily on rabbits and mice, with males being slightly larger than females.

The act becomes effective upon passage and is intended to raise public awareness of the bobcat as a beneficial wildlife species.
