Removes restrictions on opening and closing dates for the Wake County Public School System, allowing the local board of education greater flexibility in determining school calendar dates.

Eliminates the requirement that opening dates be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and closing dates be no later than the Friday closest to June 11 for Wake County schools.

Eliminates provisions allowing the State Board of Education to waive opening date requirements on a showing of good cause and to set opening dates no earlier than August 19.

Applies exclusively to the Wake County Public School System as a local bill.

Takes effect upon enactment and applies beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
