Removes state-mandated opening and closing dates for public schools in Gates County, providing the local board of education with flexibility to determine school calendar dates.

Eliminates the requirement that schools open no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and close no later than the Friday closest to June 11.

Removes provisions allowing the State Board of Education to waive opening date requirements based on "good cause" (such as excessive weather closings).

Requires all first semester examinations to be completed before winter break, regardless of the opening date chosen by Gates County.

Applies only to Gates County Schools beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
