Removes opening and closing date restrictions for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, allowing the district to set its own school calendar start and end dates without state constraints.

Eliminates the requirement that student opening dates be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and closing dates be no later than the Friday closest to June 11.

Intended to minimize winter learning loss, improve end-of-course test scores, and allow December graduates to enroll in college without missing semester start dates.

Provides flexibility for teachers to participate in meaningful professional development opportunities and avoid wasted instructional time in January.

Applies exclusively to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
