House Bill 327 Summary

• Replaces outdated emergency medical services (EMS) personnel titles with new national standards: "Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate" becomes "Advanced Emergency Medical Technician" and "Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic" becomes "Paramedic"

• Changes "Medical Responder" to "Emergency Medical Responder" throughout North Carolina statutes to align with national credentialing standards

• Updates definitions in G.S. 131E-155 and related statutes to reflect the new EMS personnel classification system while maintaining equivalent credential levels and requirements

• Requires the North Carolina Medical Care Commission to amend applicable rules consistent with the new terminology and standards by December 31, 2015

• Effective upon enactment on September 29, 2015
