Authorizes the Washington County Board of Commissioners to call a special election to fill a sheriff vacancy that occurs after a person is elected but before they qualify for office.

Requires the board to appoint someone to fill the vacant sheriff position until a special election can be held to elect a sheriff for a four-year term.

Specifies that any special election to fill a sheriff vacancy must be held at the same time as a State, county, or municipal general election, or at the same time as a primary election in an even-numbered year.

Applies only to Washington County and does not affect the existing procedures in other counties for filling sheriff vacancies.

Becomes effective upon enactment.
