Amends mandatory retirement age for magistrates, judges, and justices of the General Court of Justice from "the last day of the month" to December 31 of the year the official attains age 72.

Modifies G.S. 7A-4.20 to specify retirement occurs on December 31 rather than the last day of the calendar month in which the 72nd birthday occurs.

Updates G.S. 7A-170(b) to align magistrate retirement with the same December 31 deadline as judges and justices.

Revises G.S. 135-57(b) to clarify automatic retirement for judges in the retirement system occurs in January following attainment of age 72.

Becomes effective January 1, 2016, applying to all magistrates, judges, and justices holding office on or after that date.
