State Board of Education and Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health must jointly develop policies and guidelines for parent educational information regarding eating disorders by August 1, 2015.

Guidelines must address optional eating disorder screening programs for schools, training requirements for personnel and volunteers, student opt-out procedures, and parental notification procedures for positive screening indications.

Local boards of education must ensure parents of students in grades 5-12 receive annual parent educational information on eating disorders consistent with state-developed guidelines.

State Board and Division must consult with stakeholder organizations including UNC's Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders, National Eating Disorders Association, School Nurse Association of North Carolina, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Academy of Family Physicians during policy development.

Act becomes effective immediately and applies beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
