State Board of Education and State Board of Community Colleges must comprehensively review and revise the mathematics standard course of study for K-12 to increase rigor, focus, and career readiness, with implementation beginning in the 2018-2019 school year.

Revised standards must maintain the option of traditional sequence mathematics courses for grades 9-12 (except in cooperative innovative high schools) and require local boards to inform students and parents about sequencing options available.

Review process must address community college and university remediation issues, be transparent and public, involve stakeholders including parents and teachers, and consider prior Academic Standards Review Commission findings.

State Board must submit a report to the General Assembly by March 15, 2018 containing the revised standards, differences from the June 2016 standards, and necessary changes to student assessments.

Revised standards become effective June 1, 2018 unless the General Assembly introduces and passes a specific disapproval bill before the 31st legislative day of the 2018 Regular Session.
