Removes restrictions on opening and closing dates for school calendars in Craven, Duplin, Greene, Lenoir, Sampson, and Wayne County school administrative units.

Eliminates the requirement that opening dates be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and closing dates be no later than the Friday closest to June 11 for these six counties.

Removes the "good cause" waiver provision that previously allowed the State Board of Education to grant early opening dates (August 19) only when schools had been closed eight days per year during any four of the last ten years.

Repeals the exemption for modified calendar schools designated in the 2003-2004 school year, allowing all schools in these counties greater flexibility in setting calendar dates.

Takes effect for the 2015-2016 school year when enacted.
