House Resolution 83: Suicide Prevention Study

• Authorizes the Legislative Research Commission to study suicide prevention methods focusing on minors and veterans in North Carolina

• Directs the study to examine evidence-based suicide assessment and treatment training for licensed health care providers and its effectiveness in reducing suicide rates

• Requires evaluation of which health care provider categories should complete mandatory suicide prevention training as part of continuing education requirements

• Examines feasibility of training school personnel, clergy, and law enforcement to recognize at-risk behavior and make appropriate treatment referrals

• Directs study of methods to share non-identifying information from suicide investigations with health care providers, law enforcement, community mental health organizations, and state agencies for research and statistical purposes
