Authorizes company police officers employed by hospitals certified as company police agencies to use appropriate and reasonable force to detain respondents at medical facilities.

Applies only when a law enforcement officer has temporarily detained a respondent under G.S. 122C-261(d), 122C-263(a), or 122C-263(d)(2) for court-ordered medical examinations and then vacates the facility.

Permits company police to use force to keep respondents at the facility or return them if they attempt to leave during continuous and immediate pursuit.

Requires that the law enforcement officer and facility must jointly determine the respondent is safe to be detained under the facility's supervision before the officer vacates.

Becomes effective upon enactment.
