Bill Summary: S190 - Modernize Physical Therapy Practice

• Removes the requirement that physical therapists obtain a physician's prescription before performing spinal manipulation.

• Updates the definition of "physical therapy" in G.S. 90-270.24(4) to allow licensed physical therapists to independently perform spinal manipulation procedures.

• Maintains existing prohibitions on physical therapists performing surgery, applying roentgen rays, radioactive materials, or making medical diagnoses of disease.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2015.
