Allows qualified retired law enforcement officers who have completed handgun qualification standards for active officers within the last 12 months to satisfy the firearms safety and training course requirement for concealed handgun permits.

Qualification standards must be approved by the North Carolina Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Retired officers meeting these standards are deemed to have satisfied G.S. 14-415.12(a)(4) requirements without needing separate approved firearms safety training.

Effective October 1, 2015.
