Local boards of education must adopt a policy governing change orders for construction or repair work awarded under specified procurement statutes by October 1, 2016.

Change order policies must address the submission process for proposed change orders, including any requests for expedited review.

Policies must define which individuals have authority to approve change orders based on category of work or dollar amount, and establish corresponding descriptions and limits.

Policies must establish the process for submitting change orders requiring board review and approval, and for notifying the board of all submitted change orders and actions taken.

The law becomes effective October 1, 2016, and applies to contracts awarded, extended, or renewed on or after that date.
