Amends the definition of "employee" under North Carolina's workers' compensation act to exclude volunteers and officers of nonprofit corporations and organizations exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3).

Applies exclusion to nonprofits subject to Chapters 47A, 47C, 47F, 55A, or 59B of the General Statutes, as well as organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

Requires that excluded volunteers receive no remuneration except reasonable reimbursement for expenses directly related to their voluntary service.

Extends the volunteer exclusion to individuals elected or appointed as executive officers, directors, or committee members of qualifying nonprofits, provided they receive only expense reimbursement.

Becomes effective upon enactment.
