Authorizes local boards of education to adopt student attendance recognition programs to encourage school attendance and class participation as part of academic achievement.

Requires that students with lawful, excused absences recognized by their school principal remain eligible for participation in attendance recognition programs.

Specifies that lawful, excused absences shall not count against a student's attendance record for purposes of the recognition program.

Defines lawful absences according to rules adopted by the State Board of Education under G.S. 115C-379.

Effective beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
