Division of Child Development and Early Education within the Department of Health and Human Services shall conduct a study on costs associated with funding NC Pre-K program slots.

Study must determine total cost to fund one NC Pre-K slot including local costs, and state share needed by setting type (public schools, child care facilities, Head Start).

Division shall calculate funds needed to maintain current number of NC Pre-K slots if per-slot costs increased to amounts recommended by the study.

Division shall provide recommendations on evaluation frequency for NC Pre-K slot costs and report to legislature.

Findings and recommendations must be reported to House and Senate Appropriations Committee chairs on Health and Human Services and the Fiscal Research Division by February 1, 2017.
