Local boards of education and charter schools must report to the Superintendent of Public Instruction by September 1, 2018, on all movies shown during instructional time in November, December, January, April, May, and June of the 2017-2018 school year.

Reports must include the movie title and dates shown, instructional time spent, instructional purpose, and monthly data on the number and percentage of classrooms and instructional hours spent viewing movies.

The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall compile reported data and submit a state-level summary to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee by November 15, 2018.

One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) in nonrecurring General Fund appropriations are allocated to the Department of Public Instruction for the 2018-2019 fiscal year to support data collection and summarization.

The act becomes effective July 31, 2018.
