H150 - Standards for Chiropractic Peer Review

• Requires chiropractic peer review of motor vehicle liability and medical payment claims to be performed by individuals licensed to practice chiropractic in North Carolina.

• Peer reviewers must hold a current North Carolina chiropractic license, have practiced chiropractic in the state during the preceding five years, and derive at least half their professional income from patient care.

• Peer reviewers cannot receive fees based on the extent to which they reduce the treating chiropractor's bill and must apply the standards of acceptable care in effect in North Carolina at the time services were rendered.

• Applies only to motor vehicle liability and medical payment claims, excluding workers' compensation, general accident and health insurance, and health benefit plan claims.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2017, and establishes disciplinary action and penalties for violations under the Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
