H29 Summary

• Creates new statute G.S. 9-6.2 requiring clerks of superior court to retain names and addresses of persons requesting excusal from jury duty based on disqualification for the remainder of the biennium.

• Designates records of jury duty excusals based on disqualification as non-public records under G.S. 132-1.

• Requires clerks to provide quarterly electronic reports of persons excused for qualification reasons to local and State Boards of Elections for purposes under G.S. 163-82.14, with the State Board retaining records for two years.

• Permits clerks to destroy jury excusal records at the end of each biennium.

• Becomes effective January 1, 2018.
