Establishes the Joint Legislative Study Committee on Civics and Economics Education consisting of three Senate members and three House members appointed by their respective leadership, with one cochair from each chamber.

Committee shall study and make recommendations on improving the existing civic literacy course required under G.S. 115C-81(g), enhancing financial literacy and economics principles within the course, and whether to include a test identical to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization civics test.

Committee members receive per diem, subsistence, and travel allowances; may exercise powers under G.S. 120-19 and Article 5A of Chapter 120; and may contract for professional and consultant services as needed.

Legislative Services Officer shall assign professional and clerical staff to the Committee with additional clerical support provided by the House and Senate Directors of Legislative Assistants.

Committee must submit a final report with findings and any proposed legislation to the General Assembly by May 1, 2018, and terminates on that date or upon filing the report, whichever is first.
