Amends G.S. 58-50-30(b) to add athletic trainers licensed by the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners to the list of provider types covered under patient choice of provider provisions.

Ensures patients have the right to choose their athletic trainer under their health benefit plans without requiring a referral or prior authorization restriction.

Becomes effective October 1, 2017, and applies to health benefit contracts issued, renewed, or amended on or after that date.
