Compensation payments are disregarded as income or assets for determining eligibility for state or local benefits, and the Department of Health and Human Services must provide resource protections to Medicaid recipients receiving compensation.

Limits county liability to compensation authorized by the act and does not revive or extend any statute of limitations for related claims.

Attorney fee agreements for compensation awards are void unless counsel obtains a North Carolina State Bar opinion confirming the fee arrangement complies with professional conduct rules.
