Session Law 2018-94 (House Bill 931) - Unemployment Insurance Technical Changes

• Excludes direct sellers from the definition of employment for unemployment insurance purposes, effective July 1, 2018, for claims filed on or after that date.

• Delays the effective date for the requirement that employers respond to unemployment insurance claims within 10 days from July 1, 2018 to January 1, 2019.

• Reduces the number of required job contacts per week from five to three for individuals to qualify as actively seeking work for unemployment benefits, effective July 1, 2018.

• Lowers the employee threshold for mandatory electronic filing of the "Employer's Quarterly Tax and Wage Report" from 25 to 10 employees, effective January 1, 2019.

• Allows claimants to withdraw unemployment insurance claims for good cause within 10 days of receiving their monetary determination, with approval required from the Assistant Secretary or designee, effective July 1, 2018.
