S.L. 2017-88 Summary

• Provides $3,500 bonus substitutes to third grade teachers who remained at the same school but were previously ineligible due to restrictions in S.L. 2016-94, unless they refused to continue teaching third grade.

• Provides bonus substitutes to teachers of advanced courses who remained at the same school but were previously ineligible, in amounts equal to what they would have received under S.L. 2016-94 without the restriction, unless they refused to continue teaching the advanced course.

• Directs the Department of Public Instruction to reimburse local school administrative units up to $3,500 per teacher for third grade bonuses and up to $2,000 per teacher for advanced course bonuses that units previously paid in lieu of the restricted bonuses.

• Authorizes the State Board of Education to direct the Department of Public Instruction to pay all required bonus substitutes and reimbursements from 2016-2017 fiscal year funds.

• Became effective upon ratification on June 30, 2017.
