Officially recognizes the Chowanoke Nation of North Carolina as a state-recognized Indian tribe, restoring their historic designation and granting them rights, privileges, and immunities as a recognized American Indian tribe.

Adds the Chowanoke Nation of Chowan, Gates, Hertford, and Perquimans Counties to the list of tribes eligible for representation on the State Advisory Council on Indian Education.

Increases the Commission of Indian Affairs from 21 to 23 Indian community representatives and allocates two seats on the Commission to the Chowanoke Nation.

Recognizes the Chowanoke Nation as eligible for special programs and services provided by the United States to Indians based on their tribal status.

Becomes effective April 27, 2017.
