Extends security protections under North Carolina law to former executive, legislative, and court officers for one year after they leave office.

Allows former governors to receive occasional State Highway Patrol protection for one year after leaving office at the request of the former governor.

Requires the Secretary of Public Safety to assign one State Highway Patrol member on an occasional basis to provide security for the former governor.

Makes expenses for trooper services, travel, and lodging for former governor protection payable from appropriations to the office of the Governor.

Section 1 becomes effective December 1, 2017; remaining provisions effective when signed into law.
