Allows specified local school boards to align their school calendars with community college calendars in their service areas, notwithstanding existing state requirements for opening and closing dates.

Applies only to 15 named school systems in eastern North Carolina: Bertie County Schools, Edenton-Chowan Schools, Edgecombe County Schools, Halifax County Schools, Hertford County Schools, Martin County Schools, Nash-Rocky Mount Schools, Northampton County Schools, Roanoke Rapids Graded School District, Tyrrell County Schools, Vance County Schools, Warren County Schools, Washington County Schools, Wilson County Schools, and Weldon City Schools.

Modifies G.S. 115C-84.2(d) to add calendar alignment as an exception to the standard requirement that school opening dates be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and closing dates no later than the Friday closest to June 11.

Becomes effective upon enactment and applies beginning with the 2017-2018 school year.
