S426 - Barber Apprentice Changes

• Allows barber school graduates who pass both the initial written examination and practical examination with a score of 85% or higher to obtain a temporary permit and bypass the apprenticeship requirement.

• Temporary permit holders may apply for full registered barber certification one year after receiving the permit, with the permit remaining valid until the first Board examination held more than one year after issuance.

• Permits applicants who score below 85% on the initial practical examination to retake it up to two additional times upon payment of required fees.

• Allows current apprentice license holders who have passed both the initial written examination and practical examination at 85% or higher to convert to a temporary permit upon payment of a fee.

• Establishes a $50 maximum fee for temporary permits and becomes effective October 1, 2017.
