State Board of Education and Department of Public Instruction must develop recommendations to expand computational thinking and computer science in North Carolina K-12 schools, in collaboration with the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at NC State University and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.

Recommendations must include curriculum guidelines aligned with the K-12 Computer Science Framework (October 2016) developed by the CSforAll Consortium and evaluation of curriculum resources.

State Board and Department must develop recommendations to increase the number of teachers prepared to teach computational thinking and computer science through both preservice educator preparation and professional development for current teachers.

Recommendations must address policy and funding needs and align with the ongoing implementation of the Digital Learning Plan in North Carolina.

State Board must submit a report with recommendations and any proposed legislation to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee by January 15, 2018.
