Senate Resolution 683 honors the life and memory of Meggan Lee Callahan, a correctional officer at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, North Carolina.

Meggan Lee Callahan was born May 23, 1987, joined the North Carolina Division of Prisons in 2012, was promoted to sergeant in 2016, and was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenton.

Callahan was killed in the line of duty on April 26, 2017, when she responded to a fire in a prison dormitory and was assaulted by an inmate.

The Senate expresses appreciation for Callahan's service to North Carolina and law enforcement, and extends sympathy to her surviving parents, two sisters, nephew, and fiancée.

The Principal Clerk shall transmit a certified copy of the resolution to Callahan's family.
