Appropriates $340,000 in nonrecurring funds for fiscal year 2018-2019 to Working Landscapes, a nonprofit organization, for a pilot program connecting school districts with local farms in the North Central region (15 counties including Wake, Durham, Orange, and others).

Allocates $60,000 of the appropriated funds to reimburse participating school districts for the higher costs of sourcing food from regional farms based on servings purchased.

Dedicates remaining funds to be matched one-to-one by Working Landscapes and used to build program infrastructure and help local farms obtain certifications required to supply school nutrition programs.

Targets the pilot program to the North Central educational district encompassing 15 counties: Chatham, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Nash, Orange, Person, Vance, Wake, Warren, and Wilson Counties.

Effective date: July 1, 2018.
