Permits local boards of education in Catawba County Schools, Davie County Schools, Hickory Public Schools, and Newton-Conover City Schools to align school opening and closing dates with Catawba Valley Community College and Davidson County Community College calendars.

Allows students enrolled in dual classes at their respective community colleges to synchronize their high school fall and spring semesters with community college semesters.

Removes standard school calendar restrictions (opening no earlier than Monday closest to August 26 and closing no later than Friday closest to June 11) for the specified school systems.

Maintains exemption for schools operating under modified calendars that were designated as such during the 2003-2004 school year.

Effective beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.
