Sheriffs shall waive the firearms safety and training course requirement for permittees who renew their concealed carry permit within 60 days after expiration.

Sheriffs shall waive the training course requirement for permittees who renew between 60-180 days after expiration if the permittee completes a certified refresher course on North Carolina firearms laws and submits documentation of completion.

The refresher course must be certified or sponsored by entities listed in G.S. 14-415.12(a)(4).

The waiver provisions do not extend the expiration date of the permit.

The act becomes effective October 1, 2019, and applies to renewal applications submitted on or after that date.
