Upgrades assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer, probation officer, or parole officer from a Class E felony to a Class D felony when committed during the performance of duties.

Upgrades assault with a firearm on an employee of a state or local detention facility from a Class E felony to a Class D felony when committed during the performance of duties.

Maintains assault with a firearm on a member of the North Carolina National Guard as a Class E felony when committed during the performance of duties.

Becomes effective December 1, 2019, and applies to offenses committed on or after that date.

Does not affect prosecutions for offenses committed before the effective date, which remain subject to the previous applicable statutes.
