Brunswick County's board of commissioners may delegate authority to the planning board to conduct public hearings and make final decisions on zoning map amendment proposals.

Planning board decisions require a majority vote and must include adoption of a consistency statement pursuant to G.S. 153A-341.

Any person with standing may appeal a planning board decision to the board of commissioners by providing written notice to the county manager within 15 days of the final decision.

The board of commissioners shall review any appealed planning board decision de novo, and if no appeal is filed within 15 days, the planning board decision becomes final and equivalent to the governing body's final decision.

The board of commissioners may rescind or modify any authority delegated to the planning board through ordinance.
