County clerks of superior court are authorized to waive all costs and fees in guardianship and incompetency proceedings under Chapter 35A of the General Statutes when the proceedings arise from line-of-duty injuries.

The waiver authority applies only to proceedings involving sworn law enforcement officers, firefighters, or EMS personnel.

Amendments to G.S. 35A-1116 clarify that the cost-waiver provision in G.S. 7A-103(17) is an exception to standard cost assessment in guardianship and incompetency cases.

The act becomes effective upon enactment into law.
