Requires reimbursement contracts between health care providers and insurers or third-party payors to mandate that payments be made directly to the health care provider for covered services.

Requires insurers or third-party payors to accept and honor completed assignment of benefits agreements that assign an insured's reimbursement benefits to a health care provider, provided the agreement is validly executed by the insured.

Limits the assignment of benefits requirement to situations where no reimbursement contract exists between the health care provider and insurer or third-party payor.

Applies existing prompt claims payment provisions from G.S. 58-3-225 to payments made under reimbursement contracts or assignment of benefits agreements.

Effective July 1, 2019, and applies to reimbursement contracts and assignment of benefit agreements entered into or amended on or after that date.
