All full-time assigned classroom teachers shall receive at least 30 minutes of duty-free lunch time on a daily basis during regular student contact hours.

Duty-free lunch shall be provided to the maximum extent that child safety and supervision allow, and insofar as funds are provided by the General Assembly.

Principals are prohibited from unfairly burdening teachers by requiring them to give up duty-free lunch on an ongoing, regular basis without teacher consent.

School improvement plans must include a plan to provide a minimum of 30 minutes for duty-free lunch daily for every teacher under G.S. 115C-301.1.

The act becomes effective when it becomes law and applies beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.
