Local boards of education and charter schools shall offer advanced courses in mathematics in all grades three and higher when practicable.

Students scoring at the highest level (level five) on end-of-grade or end-of-course mathematics tests must be enrolled in the advanced course for their next mathematics course.

Seventh grade students scoring at the highest level must be enrolled in a high school level mathematics course in eighth grade, and local boards may administer diagnostic assessments to provide supplemental content enrichment.

Students cannot be removed from advanced or high school mathematics courses unless a parent or guardian provides written consent after being informed that the student's placement was determined by their previous test achievement.

The Department of Public Instruction shall submit annual reports to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee by October 15 each year containing data on eligible students, placement numbers and demographics, course types, and feedback from local boards and charter schools.

Charter schools must provide advanced math courses in accordance with these requirements.
