Prohibits leasing, offering to lease, selling, or offering to sell living animals for personal, family, or household use if the transaction includes provisions allowing the animal to be repossessed by the seller or lender based on payment defaults

Violations constitute a Class 2 misdemeanor and are classified as unfair and deceptive trade practices under G.S. 75-1.1

Any contract provisions that violate the prohibition are declared null and void

Permits purchase of living animals through unsecured personal loans, which are not subject to the leasing prohibition

Effective December 1, 2019, applying to contracts entered into on or after that date and offenses committed on or after that date
