Spouses of active duty Armed Forces members abiding in North Carolina with the member qualify for in-state tuition rates at institutions of higher education.

Spouses remain eligible for in-state tuition and mandatory fees if continuously enrolled after the military member is reassigned outside North Carolina or retires, provided the spouse maintains North Carolina residency.

Spouses of members receiving an Honorable Discharge must establish North Carolina residency within 30 days after discharge and remain continuously enrolled to maintain in-state tuition eligibility.

Spouses must comply with Selective Service System requirements, if applicable, to receive this tuition benefit.

Effective July 1, 2019, applying to the 2019-2020 academic year and beyond.
