Adds a $600 cost assessment for convicted offenders when local law enforcement crime laboratory analysis was used during investigation leading to conviction.

Cost applies only when the local lab performed DNA analysis, tested bodily fluids for alcohol or controlled substances, or analyzed controlled substances possessed by the defendant.

Assessed amount must be remitted to the general fund of the local governmental unit operating the laboratory for law enforcement purposes.

Court may only assess the cost if it finds the local laboratory work is equivalent in quality to work performed by the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory.

Effective July 1, 2019, applies to costs assessed on or after that date.
