General Assembly honors the memory of Walter B. Jones, Jr., and expresses appreciation for his service to Eastern North Carolina, North Carolina, and the United States.

Walter B. Jones, Jr., served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1983 to 1992 and in the U.S. House of Representatives for 12 consecutive terms representing the Third District until 2019.

Sponsored the Shackleford Banks Wild Horse Protection Act, passed into law in 1998, which serves as a national model for wildlife conservation partnerships.

Served on numerous committees and boards including the Armed Services Committee, Human Resources Committee, and organizations supporting mental health, library services, and services for individuals with disabilities.

General Assembly extends deepest sympathy to his family and directs the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of the resolution to them.
