Increases the felony classification for assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer, probation officer, or parole officer from Class E to Class D, effective December 1, 2019.

Establishes a $100,000 death benefit for families of public safety employees ("covered persons") murdered in the line of duty, in addition to existing workers' compensation awards.

Payment of the death benefit follows a priority order: surviving spouse first, then surviving dependent children (equally divided if multiple), then surviving dependent parents (equally divided if multiple), or to the estate if no surviving family members.

Applies the death benefit retroactively to July 1, 2017, covering qualifying deaths that occurred on or after that date.
